Michigan Yacht Sales is the latest spin-off of the widely known and respected Great Lakes Sailing Co. Dave Conrad is the owner of Michigan Yacht Sales and former owner of Great Lakes Sailing Co. Since taking on new and used yacht sales in 2011, the sales division has grown to merit it’s own entity. As a way to focus on boat sales, Dave sold GLSC in the fall of 2025 to long-time employee John Dykhuis-Deely and wife, Brooke.
Michigan Yacht Sales continues to operate from the same location at the CenterPointe Marina that has been home to Great Lakes Sailing Co. for over 42 years. MYS and GLSC work together selling new boats into the GLSC charter program and offering the same great after-sales service.

Dave Conrad
Dave is the owner of Michigan Yacht Sales and former owner of Great Lakes Sailing Co.
Dave has been sailing the Great Lakes, Caribbean, Gulf Coast and beyond for over 30 years. He has extensive experience in captaining charter vessels up to 90 feet and managing charter companies in the Caribbean and the Great Lakes. He holds a USCG Masters 100 ton Captain’s license and is an American Sailing Association Instructor certified for levels 101, 103, 104, 105 and 114.
Joanie Sweitzer
As Sales Manager, Joanie handles the day-to-day tasks that keep the operation running smoothly. In addition to her business and accounting background, she’s pretty darn handy to have around. A past upholsterer and pattern maker, Joanie operated a marine canvas business in Seattle before moving back to Traverse City.
Joanie grew up boating on Grand Traverse Bay and thinks a day isn’t complete without a view of the bay. She grew up sailing in Michigan and spent most of a decade racing sailboats in the Puget Sound.
John Dykhuis-Deely
John is the New Owner and Service Manager at Great Lakes Sailing Co.
With nearly 30 years in the maritime industry, John has a diverse background working as both Captain and Chief Engineer aboard Traditional Sailing Vessels and Super Yachts, sailing and steaming around the world. His career is built on a firm foundation of education and mentorship and he strives to approach everything with an eye toward process improvement and project management. In his spare time, John enjoys cycling, sailing, and traveling with his family.
